Additional Information: The budget for the microsurfacing program this year is $600,000. Because of anticipated increases in oil prices, the original scope of the program was cut back in order to stay under that amount. Since the low bid is 22% below the budget amount, there is an opportunity to do additional patching and add several streets back into this year’s program. Staff proposes increasing the contract award to allow additional work to proceed. However, since the city’s budget is tight, staff does not recommend adding up to the budgeted amount. It is recommended that the award be increased to $525,000. This additional funding could add up to two miles of street to the program while staying 12.5% below budget.
Recommendation Action:
Approve bid from Vance Brothers, Inc. for Project 8-SR3-107(C), 2007 Microsurfacing Program in the amount of $525,000.00 (increased from $468,316.50) provided the contractor can meet the terms established in the contract documents.
