Please include the following item on the City Commission consent agenda for consideration at the May 8, 2007 meeting:

Contractor License Continuing Education

City licensed contractors are required to attend eight (8) hours of continuing education training per year in order to qualify for renewal of licenses the following year.  The City has an agreement with the Johnson County Licensing Program for them to provide continuing education training for Lawrence contractors.  The City collects the payment for this service as part of the annual license fee and pays Johnson County upon completion of the training.

During the 2007 program year we anticipate 650 Lawrence licensed contractors will attend 5,200 hours of training, with the expected cost to be $87,750.

Action Request

Authorize payment to Johnson County Licensing Program in an amount up to $87,750 for continuing education classes for Lawrence licensed contractors who will attend training during the 2007 program year.
