RESOLUTION NO.  6721

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE FIRE CHIEF TO EXECUTE THE ATTACHED INTERLOCAL MUTUAL AID AGREEMENT FOR FIRE AND MEDICAL SERVICES WITH THE CITY OF OVERLAND PARK, KANSAS.

Whereas, from time to time it is necessary for the Lawrence – Douglas County Fire and Medical Department to call on other governmental agencies to assist it in responding to disasters, mass casualty events and other emergencies that require fire and medical services; and

Whereas, the City of Overland Park, Kansas, due to its geographic proximity and the proficiency of its Fire Department employees, is well suited to provide such aid; and

Whereas, the Lawrence – Douglas County Fire and Medical Department may also be called upon by the City of Overland Park to provide mutual aid as needed.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF LAWRENCE, KANSAS:

Section 1.  The Governing Body hereby grants authority to execute a mutual aid agreement for fire and medical services with the City of Overland Park to Mark Bradford, Chief of the Lawrence – Douglas County Fire and Medical Department.

Section 2.  The terms and conditions of the agreement shall be identical to, or substantially similar to the agreement attached to this resolution as Exhibit A.

Section 3.  This resolution shall be effective following adoption by the Governing Body.
