ECOČ Commission

March 1, 2007

The March 1, 2007 meeting of the ECOČ Commission was called to order at 7:30 a.m. by chairperson Trudy Rice.  Members present were Bruce Liese, John Pendleton, RoxAnne Miller, Bob Rhoton, Larry McElwain, Trudy Rice and Rex Buchanan.

The commission discussed how to proceed on presenting the final plan.   Larry McElwain suggested that a study session on the plan be scheduled with both the city and county commissioners before the formal presentation is made on April 11th.  Larry also suggested that the plan be given to the six candidates who were running for the city commission.  Larry volunteered to set up these sessions with the commissioners.

The commission discussed the commission positions.  Trudy Rice told the commission that Sandra Shaw would be resigning due to health reasons.  RoxAnne Miller has agreed to serve one more year.  Trudy Rice will step up as chair.  Rex Buchanan had talked with Roger Boyd about taking Sandra Shaw’s position if approved by the County Commission.  Roger is interested and Craig Weinaug has stated that he would be supportive of his appointment.  Rex Buchanan has also agreed to serve another term.  Larry McElwain has agreed to serve as vice-chairman.  Larry McElwain moved, and Bob Rhoton seconded, that RoxAnne Miller fulfill the position left by Sandra Shaw and Roger Boyd be appointed to succeed RoxAnne Miller for a full three year term.  The motion was passed.  Rex volunteered to contact Roger Boyd on behalf of the commission.

John Pendleton moved, and Bob Rhoton seconded, that Larry McElwain be appointed as vice-chair and Trudy Rice be appointed as chair.  The motion was passed.  Larry McElwain moved, and Bob Rhoton seconded, that Rex Buchanan be appointed to a new four year term to succeed himself.  The motion was passed.

Due to so many changes in the commission, Trudy Rice suggested that the presentation of the plan would have to be put off until April.  In other suggestion of the plan, the commission decided to add a copy of the soil survey as an appendix to the plan.

Being no further business, Larry McElwain moved, and Bob Rhoton seconded, that the meeting be adjourned.  The motion was passed.  The next meeting will be on Thursday, April 5th, at 7:30 a.m. in the Douglas County Extension Office.
