Introductions

The Board Members and guests introduced themselves.

Approve the March 21, 2007 minutes.

Carpenter made a motion to approve the minutes. Breithaupt second the motion, the motion passed 4-0.

Review the 2006 International Codes.

Staff handed out the 2006 International Plumbing Code and the 2006 International Fuel Gas Code.

Carpenter asked the Board what they were doing.

Dillon stated that he agreed with Breithaupt’s statements at the last meeting that if it didn’t work it would not be in the book.

Breithaupt stated that he had read the plumbing portions of the IRC and the venting was the only confusing part but the rest of the code was basic requirements. Breithaupt continued saying that the only thing he read that might be a problem was the code requirement to test sewers lines.

Breithaupt stated that in Johnson County they have that same requirement but do not enforce it. Breithaupt went on saying he agreed with their enforcement policy but felt the section should be left in the code so that staff had a requirement for testing if a sewer looked to be in disrepair.

Breithaupt reiterated that he had read all the plumbing portions of the IRC and stated that he did not see anything that really stood out or was going to be problem.

Hoag stated that he would like to look at the gas portions but was in agreement with Breithaupt about having fewer amendments.

Carpenter asked if the bonding of flexible gas lines was addressed in the IRC.

Staff informed the Board that it was address in section G2411 and that the electrical board agreed to recommend that gas lines be bonded with a minimum #6 awg copper conductor and installed in accordance with the 2005 National Electrical Code irregardless of the presence of a flexible gas line product.

Carpenter agreed with the electrical board’s recommendation.

Breithaupt made a motion to approve the 2006 International Residential Code and the 2006 International Plumbing Code without amendments pending Hoag’s review of the fuel gas portions and Lewis’ thoughts on the issue. Carpenter second the motion, the motion passed 4-0.

Staff stated that the draft ordinances would be available to the Board at the next meeting.
