RE:

Parks & Recreation Project List

Attached is the most up-to-date project list for Parks & Recreation. As you know this list is updated weekly and is used to track the progress of all capital projects in our department.

The white, green and yellow sections of the worksheet are projects that we are in the process of completing or we anticipate completing in 2007. These projects and the priority of the project can change as maintenance and repair needs arise throughout the year. Historically our department has spent approximately $1,000,000 a year on these smaller projects to maintain and improve the City parks & recreation infrastructure. Funding comes from sales tax, special recreation funding and to a lesser extent the general fund.

This list also shows the $900,000 of projects that were bonded for the phased development of Clinton Park, DeVictor Park, Burroughs Creek Park & Trail, The road to Sesquicentennial Point and an addition to the Skate Park.

If we assume that the historic funding sources are left in-tact for smaller projects (less than $50,000), then an area of concern exists in the orange section of the spreadsheet. There are a growing number of large (over $50,000) maintenance and development projects that have been identified in the parks & recreation system. At the present time, there is not a clear and defined funding mechanism to accomplish projects of this scale.
