Mr. Dave Corliss
City Manager
City of Lawrence
Lawrence, KS
Dear Dave:
Please consider the following request and place it on the City's Commission
upcoming agenda. The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the Collegiate
Cycling Road National Championships would like to have the ability to post “no
parking” signs along the race route before the Criterium scheduled for Sunday,
May 13, in downtown Lawrence. The LOC already has requested and has received
the public right-of-way permit for this event.
To ensure a safe and manageable race route for Sunday's Criterium, it is
imperative that all public streets within the race route are clear of
automobiles. The LOC will notify the downtown merchants and tenants of the May
13 event and advise them of their parking options. “No parking” stickers will
be placed on all parking meters within the race route the week of the
Criterium. The LOC would like to increase public awareness of not parking on
the street overnight on May 12. This is our attempt to reduce or possibly even
eliminate the need to tow vehicles that are in violation.
The proposed 16 X 26 signs would read as follows:
No Parking
SUN. May 13, 2007
2:00 AM to 2 PM
VIOLATORS TOWED
BY
ORDER OF CHIEF OF POLICE
As many as 30 signs could be placed in the downtown planters located on corners
and near the pedestrian crosswalks of along the race route. Thank you in
advance for considering our request.
Respectfully,
Bob Sanner
