Agenda Item – Pool Painting
|
Please include the following item on the City Commission agenda for consideration at the April 24, 2007 meeting:
Pool Painting – Lawrence Outdoor Aquatic Center
The Parks & Recreation Department request approval to bid the painting and caulking of the outdoor pool and request a bid date for the project be set for May 29, 2007.
Project History. To properly maintain the outdoor pool the floor and walls of the pool need to be painted every 3-4 years. This summer will be the fourth season for the current paint job and it is showing significant wear and cracking in the paint surface. This wear is caused by high bather load traffic, pool chemicals and weather.
Project Status. We would like to bid the project this spring and have the work start as soon as the pool closes in September. This allows the bidders to do a visual inspection of the pool before it is filled with water for the season.
Project Details. The project includes wet sand blasting of all painted surfaces to remove approximately 75% of the existing paint to assure proper adhesion of the new coatings. One primer coat and two finished coat of industrial epoxy pool paint will be applied to all previously painted surfaces. Painting and marking of all lane lines, depth markers, and blue trim on the edge of both pools. Remove and replacement of all caulking in the submerged pool expansion joints. Remove and replacement of the perimeter caulking around the top edge of the pool.
Project Funding. This project is estimated to cost between $60,000 and $70,000 and will be funded using sales tax reserve.
Action Request. The Parks & Recreation Department requests approval from the City Commission to set May 29, 2007 as the bid date for the outdoor pool painting project.
