Proclamation

Lawrence, Kansas

 

 

WHEREAS:   As a Nation devoted to liberty and justice for all, America must increase its efforts to protect, restore, and expand crime victims’ rights and services so they apply to every victim, every time; and

 

WHEREAS:   Twenty-three million Americans are victims of crime each year, and of those, over five million are victims of violent crimes; and

 

WHEREAS:   All victims of crime deserve respect, resources, restoration, and justice; and

 

WHEREAS:   As we carry crime victims’ rights into 2007 and beyond, we must strive to create a nation where the legal rights of victims are honored;

 

WHEREAS:   The Douglas County District Attorney’s Office is joining forces with victim service programs and concerned citizens throughout Lawrence, Douglas County, and America to raise awareness of victim’s rights and observe National Crime Victims’ Rights Week:

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Sue Hack, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby proclaim the week of April 22-28, 2007 as

 

“National Crime Victims’ Rights Week”
