RE:	North Lawrence Pump Stations 1, 2, &3 Change Order #1- Utilities Project #1SS-104

Please include the following item on the consent agenda for the April 3, 2007 City Commission meeting.

Authorize the City Manger to amend the contract with BRB Contractors in the amount of $ 38,000.00 for a total of  $ 2,253,000.00 for the construction of improvements to three pump stations in North Lawrence.   This change order encompasses an additional manhole and additional sewer required to avoid a  buried obstruction.

Project Description/History: The Utilities Department intends to replace existing sanitary sewer pump stations in North Lawrence in accordance with the 2003 Wastewater Master Plan and Wastewater CIP. Bartlett and West Engineers have completed the design for the project.  

Project Status/ Details:

February 2005: The City entered into an Engineering Services Agreement with Bartlett & West Engineers for designing modifications to the pump stations.

September 2005:  Bartlett and West prepared documents to obtain additional land to accommodate the larger pump station footprints.

December 2005:  The City provisionally approved the pump station site plans. 

March 2006:  The City completed purchases for additional land.

June 2006:  Bartlett and West Engineers completed designs for the three pump stations.

August 2006:  The City awarded the construction contract for the project BRB Contractors.

March 2007:  BRB encountered a buried structure while excavating at Pump Station #3. Bartlett and West believes that the structure is no longer in use and can be abandoned in place.  An additional manhole and several additional feet of sewer is required to clear the structure. 

Project Funding: Funding is through the Utilities Department Capital Improvement Program Bonded Construction Fund.

Action Request.  Authorize the City Manger to amend the contract with BRB Contractors in the amount of $ 38,000.00 for a total of $2,253,000.00 for the construction of improvements to three pump stations in North Lawrence.   This change order encompasses an additional manhole and additional sewer required to avoid a buried obstruction.
