On January 16, 2007 the City of Lawrence went out for bids for the Sesquicentennial Point project, bid #B07001.
Parks and Recreation requested bids for the Sesquicentennial Point project consisting of the concrete plaza area, steps, sidewalk and engraved timeline. We also had an alternate bid for the construction of the road. Bids were sent to 9 contractors but we received only one from BA Green. The bid came in higher than budgeted so meetings were held with the architect and
BA Green to reduce the scope of the project to get back in budget. A bench/retaining wall was removed from the project and made it a normal retaining wall without a bench. We also removed some boulders that can be added in the future if needed. This reduced the base bid to $210,205.00 and the total project to $296,862.00, keeping within the budget. This project was approved by the City Commission on October 17, 2006.
