Master Street Tree Program – Additional Trees

 

Please place the following item on the City Commission consent agenda for consideration at their February 27, 2007 meeting:

 

Change order for additional street trees.

 

Project Background:

In the fall of 2006, the Parks & Recreation Department solicited bids for planting of 458 trees in 15 sub-divisions for the Master Street Tree Program. As you know, funding for purchase of these trees is provided by the property developer/owner.  Shawnee Mission Tree Service was the low bidder on this project at $190 per tree. We have been very satisfied with their work, and they have planted all but 23 of the trees.

 

Project Status:

There are now 123 additional trees that need to be planted in these same sub-divisions for houses that have been completed since the original bid date. We would like to use the same vendor and bid price to allow for tree planting this spring in these neighborhoods.  If approved, these trees would be covered under the same warranty as the original project and have a completion date of March 30.  To re-bid would cause these trees to wait until fall to be planted, resulting in an unnecessary delay to the property owners.

 

Project Funding:

There are sufficient funds in the Master Street Tree account to cover this purchase.

 

Action Request:

We request City Commission approval for a $23,370 change order to purchase order# 065474 with Shawnee Mission Tree Service for the purchase and installation of the 123 additional trees.
