Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) and the Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) entered into an agreement between regional councils that allow members of MARC to use the H-GAC cooperative purchasing program contracts.  This arrangement is administered by the Kansas City Regional Purchasing Cooperative (KCRPC).  Most items purchased off this cooperative contract can be purchased through local vendors.

Public Works/Street Division is requesting to purchase a street sweeper off the H-GAC cooperative contract.  The present street sweeper has high maintenance costs and is due for replacement.  The new model sweeper will take less manpower because the hopper carrying the waste is much larger so the operator will only need assistance in the fall and winter due to larger amounts of debris.  We are also requesting to trade in our present street sweeper.  We have been monitoring comparable street sweepers on ebay and Gov Deals and find they have been selling for less than $28,000.00.  We have been offered $44,400.00 trade in on the new sweeper.  The street sweeper purchase was budgeted in the 2006 budgeting process.

Recommendation Action:

Approve purchase from Key Equipment Company for one street sweeper off the H-GAC cooperative contract in the amount of $182,567.35 less trade - $44,400.00, total sweeper price $138,167.35 (Public Works/Street Division)
