RE:	Agenda Item - Final Report of Coordinated Public Transportation Development Plan

Please place the following item on the City Commission agenda for consideration at their January 2, 2007 meeting:

Receive the attached Final Report of the Coordinated Public Transportation Development Plan prepared by Dan Boyle & Associates, Inc.

Project Background

The City of Lawrence and the University of Kansas contracted with Dan Boyle and Associates, Inc. to evaluate transit services in the community with an examination and analysis on the feasibility of coordinating/consolidating existing City and KU on Wheels services. 

Project Status

On November 29, 2006, the City Commission held a study session where Dan Boyle presented the draft report and discussed the recommendations, including both immediate action items and long-range implementation strategies.  Additionally, members of the Public Transit Advisory Committee (PTAC) have had an opportunity to review the draft report, which has been posted on the City’s website at www.lawrencetransit.org.

Commission Action

It is my recommendation that the City Commission receive the report and direct staff to proceed with discussions with KU officials on developing next steps, as appropriate.
