Please include the following item on the City Commission consent agenda for consideration at the December 5, 2006 meeting:

Project Description. Reconstruction of intersection to include a southbound left turn lane at Locust Street, prohibit southbound left turn lane at Elm Street, geometric improvements, and signalization.

 

Project History

2005

Project programmed into KDOT 5-Year Plan.

November 2005

Hired TranSystems to prepare design.

April 19, 2006

Met with Depot, Parks & Recreation, Rick Renfro (Johnny’s Tavern), Historic Resource Administrator, Ted Boyle (North Lawrence Improvement Association), and Cory Brinkerhoff.

April 29, 2006

Met with ILC to discuss traffic control.

May 8, 2006

Met with North Lawrence Improvement Association.

June 13, 2006

City Commission approved east side widening and prohibiting a left turn at Elm Street from southbound traffic.

 

Project Status.  Plans are currently at the “Field Check” stage and are being reviewed by KDOT.  Scheduled letting is October 2007; however, we are trying to advance this schedule, if possible.

 

Project FundingStaff requests approval of Resolution 6691 authorizing the Mayor to execute Agreement No. 228-06 granting authority to the Secretary of Transportation to act on the city’s behalf to obtain funding for the 2nd and Locust Street intersection improvements.  This project has an estimated construction cost of $1.4 million with the state participating 80%. 

 

Action Requested.  Approve Resolution 6691 authorizing the Mayor to execute Agreement No. 228-06.
