RE:

December 5, 2006 Agenda Item

Please include the following item on the City Commission consent agenda for consideration at the December 5, 2006 meeting:

Contractor License Continuing Education

City licensed contractors are required to attend eight (8) hours of continuing education classes per year in order to qualify for renewal of licenses for the following year.  The City has an agreement with the Johnson County Licensing Program that they will provide continuing education for Lawrence contractors.  The City collects the payment for this service as part of the annual license fee and pays Johnson County upon completion of the training.

During the Fall Education Program, November 6-10, 2006 at the Overland Park Convention Center, 155 City licensed contractors attended a total of 1,166 hours of training.  Neighborhood Resources Department staff attended 166 hours of training.  Nearly 100 courses were provided to choose from covering building, mechanical, electrical and plumbing codes and practical applications.  A course catalog is attached.

Action Request

Authorize payment to Johnson County Licensing Program in the amount of $21,158.20 for continuing education classes for Lawrence licensed contractors and City staff who attended training during the November education program at the Overland Park Convention Center.
