Lawrence, Kansas
WHEREAS: The City of Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department encourages trick-or-treaters to make their Halloween "Beggars Night" house calls between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 31st; and
WHEREAS: Homeowners are asked to turn on their porch lights during these hours to assist costumed youth; and
WHEREAS: Parents are encouraged to accompany children and inspect treats before they are eaten, making sure that all treats are wrapped or sacked; and
WHEREAS: Trick-or-treaters should remain in familiar neighborhoods, skip houses that do not have porch lights on, wear clothes that are bright in color and not flammable, and use the sidewalks when venturing between houses; and
WHEREAS: The Parks and Recreation Department Special Events Division, in conjunction with the Lawrence Breakfast Optimists Club, held the 35th Annual Halloween Paint-In on Saturday October 21 where individuals participated in decorating the store fronts of Downtown Lawrence, giving citizens young and old an opportunity to share their talents and create a festive environment for the holiday;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mike Amyx, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby proclaim Tuesday, October 31, 2006, between the hours of 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., to be
