Chairman Frost called the meeting to order at 6:22 pm.
Minutes
The minutes of the July 19th, 2006 meeting had been emailed to all members. All members present had viewed the minutes prior to the meeting. Frost made a motion to accept the minutes and Brickell seconded the motion, the motion passed unanimously.
Unfinished Business
Staff mentioned the State Statute that was sent to all members and briefly touched on what changes that might make. As of the first of July all jurisdictions within the State of Kansas that are involved in licensing electricians will have some new rules to follow. The Statute requires that at least 12 hours of continuing education be attended biannually by all license holders in order to have their license renewed. The Statute also requires anyone wanting to be sponsored for a master electricians test to first have a journeyman license for at least two years. This statute is very similar in wording to the ones enacted last year for mechanical and plumbing trades.
New Business
Brickell talked about some issues that were brought up at a recent meeting of Board Chairmen regarding the adoption and enforcement of a blended Code. Several current Codes will be merged with the International group shortly and many feel it would be much easier to work with a like set of Codes. Cross-referencing between all these different Codes has become a monumental task and sets the stage for conflicting requirements. The Electrical Code hasn’t been a problem since it is recognized as an International Code, but the administration sections are different from current ordinances. He thought having the IRC in place with our amendments to the electrical section might be a good thing.
Adjournment
Frost made a motion to adjourn and it was seconded by LaBounty. Motion passed unanimously and meeting was adjourned at 6:29 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Phil Burke Secretary
