RE:

City Connecting Link Agreement

Agenda Item October 10, 2006

DESCRIPTIONThe Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) executes agreements with the city regarding maintenance of the state highways within the city limits.  These agreements establish the number of lane miles that the city will maintain and the amount that the state will pay the city each year for performing this maintenance.

HISTORYKDOT prepares a resolution and agreements periodically as needed to modify maintenance responsibilities.  The city last executed the City Connecting Link Agreements in 1999.

DETAILSThe current resolution establishes 58.020 lane miles of state highway within the city limits.  The city will maintain 54.056 of these lane miles.  In 1999, the city maintained 47.300 lane miles of state highway within the city limits.  The difference in lane miles is due primarily to the addition of 6th Street west of Wakarusa Drive.

FUNDINGThe state will pay the city $3,000 per lane mile, or $162,168 annually, to maintain the 54.056 lane miles of state highway.  In 1999, the state paid the city $3,000 per lane mile, or $141,900 annually, to maintain the 47.300 lane miles of state highway.

ACTION REQUESTAuthorize the Mayor to sign agreements for City Connecting Links for maintenance on state highways within the city limits.
