October 3, 2006 Agenda Item |
Please include the following item on the City Commission consent agenda for consideration at the October 3, 2006 meeting:
Riverfront Parking Garage Stair Replacement.
This is part of the parking garage improvement project for 2006. This was bid separately because of the type of work being performed.
Project History. The Riverfront Parking Structure, constructed 1989-1990, has 510 parking spaces. It includes a slab on grade parking level and one structural pre-cast supported concrete level. The major conditions observed include deteriorated stairs which is due to age and the metal and concrete exposure to deicing methods and natural deterioration. This project was re-bid after the lone initial bid was over the engineering estimate.
Project Status. B. A. Green was the only bid received and was reviewed by Walker and Associates and City of Lawrence staff members. The bid was below estimate and the contractor has met all requirements.
Project Details. The project includes the removal of the old stairs and installation of pre-cast stairs that can be replaced individually on an as needed basis. Staff will be in contact with business owners that use the parking garage and work with them to assure they are informed of all stages of the project, including schedule. We anticipate the project to start in 4 to 6 weeks, depending on weather and material delivery.
Project Funding. This project will be funded from Capital Improvement and Parking Reserve funds.
Action Request. Public Works staff requests approval from the City Commission to authorize the City Manager to enter into a contract with B.A. Green in the amount of $62,969.00 for replacement of two sets of stairs in the Riverfront Parking Garage.
