Lawrence, Kansas

 

WHEREAS:   October 5, 2006 marks COMMUNITIES IN MOTION DAY to raise public awareness about the benefits of public transportation by encouraging people to ride public transit; and

 

WHEREAS:   Public transportation is making a real difference in the daily lives of many individuals and households by providing approximately 2 million safe, accessible and reliable rides in Lawrence, Kansas since 2001; and,

 

WHEREAS:   Public transportation is vital to the quality of life and economic well-being of Lawrence by making our community stronger and more vibrant through improving mobility and maintaining independence of all of its citizens; and

 

WHEREAS:   Lawrence Transit System will participate in COMMUNITIES IN MOTION DAY to promote the benefits of public transportation by offering free rides on the “T” on October 5; 

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mike Amyx, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, do hereby proclaim October 5, 2006, to be

 

“COMMUNITIES IN MOTION DAY”

 

and encourage all Lawrence citizens to support public transportation and COMMUNITIES IN MOTION DAY by riding the “T” on Thursday during the free ridership day to learn more about the transit service that serves your community and to take advantage of its benefits.
