Waste Reduction and Recycling staff are coordinating the sixth annual Home Energy Conservation Fair and Douglas County Sustainable Homes Tour, Sunday, October 8th, 10:00-5:00 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds.

From remodel projects to new construction to state legislative updates, this year’s speakers will provide information about the costs, benefits and strategies to reduce energy bills in the home.

Douglas County Sustainable Homes Tour

Homes featured on the 2006 tour include a passive solar/earth bermed home; a straw-bale home with radiant floor heating; a super-efficient retrofit utilizing solar thermal collectors with a forced-air gas furnace; and two new homes showcase their construction elements of (a) thermomass sandwich wall technology and (b) insulated concrete forms.

Homes tour buses will leave from Fairgrounds Building 21 at 10AM and 2PM.
