TRAFFIC
ENGINEERING DIVISION
MEMORANDUM
TO: Charles Soules,
Director of Public Works
Terese Gorman, City Engineer
FROM: David Woosley,
Transportation/Traffic Engineer
DATE: 30
August 2006
SUBJECT:
At
the August 14, 2006, Traffic Safety Commission meeting, the commission heard a
request from the Pedestrian Advisory Sub-Committee to post NO TURN ON RED WHEN
PEDESTRIANS ARE PRESENT on southbound
A
review of the highest pedestrian crash locations during 2003-2005 found this
intersection to have the clearest crash pattern in the city. During this time period there were three
pedestrian crashes reported; all three involved southbound vehicles turning
right on red.
The
commission voted 7-1 in favor of recommending posting appropriate signs; one
commissioner felt that current laws and ordinances covered the situation and
didn’t feel that one crash per year was out of proportion.
If
additional information is needed, please let me know.
