Proclamation
WHEREAS: We the people did
ordain and establish a Constitution for the United States of America to secure
the blessings of liberty for ourselves and our posterity; and
WHEREAS: September 17,
2006 marks the 219th anniversary of the drafting of the constitution
of the
WHEREAS: It is important
that all citizens fully understand the provisions, principles, and meaning of
the Constitution so they can support, preserve, and defend it against
encroachment; and
WHEREAS: It is fitting and
proper to give official recognition to this magnificent document and its
memorable anniversary, and to the patriotic celebrations which will commemorate
the occasion;
NOW, THEREFORE, I,
in Lawrence and, with the Betty Washington Chapter of the
National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, in celebration of
Constitution Week, as the citizens of Lawrence to reaffirm the ideals the
Farmers of the constitution had in 1787 by vigilantly protecting the freedoms
guaranteed to us through this guardian of our liberties, remember that lost
rights may never be regained.
