RE:	Population Estimate Issues

Planning staff has prepared memos on the subject of reviewing and challenging the past population estimates provided by the US Census Bureau. Staff recommends that we proceed with filing this challenge.

It is important to note separately that while staff recommends that we pursue this challenge based on our belief that the Census Bureau numbers underestimate our population, such an effort is not a substitute for additional work on economic development for our community and taking steps to ensure quality growth in the future. Your adopted 2007 budget places additional emphasis on this goal and your staff continues to pursue opportunities to enhance our economic development efforts.
