Re:

Agenda item

Please place the following item on the City Commission consent agenda for consideration at their August 15, 2006 meeting:

Airport Improvement Project

Project Status.  Construction bids were opened on May 16th for Schedules I and II for the parallel taxiway construction project.  The bid from Hamm In. came in at an amount higher than the funding available from FAA.  City staff worked with Hamm, the Airport Development Group (the City’s consultant for the project) and the FAA to reduce the scope of the project to allow for a beneficial portion of the taxiway to be built while staying within the confines of the anticipated funding.  The total amount of the reduced scope of the project, including engineering fees, inspection fees, and construction is now $1,472,574.00.

A grant application was submitted to FAA on June 22, 2006 requesting FAA participation for the project.  Today we received a grant offer from FAA for 95% of the project, with a maximum financial obligation of $1,398,945.

Commission Action.   Staff recommends acceptance of the FAA grant offer.  Therefore, we seek City Commission approval to authorize the Interim City Manager to execute the grant agreement for the amount noted above.
