Minutes

The minutes of the May 3rd, 2006 meeting had been mailed to all members.  All members present had viewed the minutes prior to the meeting.  Brickell made a motion to accept the minutes and Oliver seconded the motion, the motion passed unanimously.

Unfinished Business

Chairman Frost asked Staff the status of the resignation of Dan Wilkus member at large.

Staff responded that Mr. Wilkus had made an official resignation of his position to the City Manager’s office.  Staff had contacted the City Manager’s office recently to inquire if anyone was on the interest list for this position.

Frost asked if any public comment had been received.

Staff has not received any public comment through the form letter placed at local Electrical Wholesalers and none was presented at the public comment forum on June 7th 2006 in the City Commission Room.  One Electrical Contractor attended to see if any information was being handed out regarding changes.

New Business

A motion was made by Frost to forward the 2005 Lawrence Electrical Code Draft document to the City’s Legal Department.  Beebe seconded the motion, the motion passed unanimously.

A motion was made by Frost to suspend meetings of the Electrical Board of Appeals until an issue necessitates the Board to convene or until September, 6th 2006, to allow all Members to enjoy the summer.  The motion was seconded by Oliver and passed unanimously.

Brickell reported to the Board that the International Electrical Code book has been reviewed by him, and basically recognizes the NFPA 70 as their Electrical Code of reference.  Brickell further stated that items contained in the IEC were of an administrative nature and would not cause any conflicts between the International Fire Code and the NEC.

Hardie asked if any information was available on which continuing education classes would be required to be attended at Johnson County in order to renew licenses for 2007.  He questioned if certain class numbers were required for Electrical Contractors and other classes for say Plumbing and or Mechanical Contractors.

Staff stated that currently the City’s Legal Department is working on adding back into the Contractor licensing program all the trades Contractors.  It was his understanding that until this was completed and passed by the City Commission it was not a requirement facing the trades Contractors for renewal in 2007.  Staff felt confident that any class attended that was part of the Johnson County Contractor Education program would be accepted here in Lawrence. The recent State Statute has added a considerable number of persons requiring continuing education in this area and presents some tough issues for the Johnson County group.

Oliver has been involved with some on-line education offered through Johnson County and found that to be very convenient. He mentioned at one time it could be taken at home, but he was recently required to take it on site.  He mentioned a small additional cost was associated with it. Oliver found it unusual that Electrical Contractors were not included in this State Statute.

Frost noted that if you met Johnson County license requirements for renewal you would be able to be licensed here in Lawrence.

Correspondence

Staff had received no correspondence.

Adjournment

Frost made a motion to adjourn and it was seconded by Oliver.  Motion passed unanimously and meeting was adjourned at 12:30 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Phil Burke, Secretary
