RE:	June 6, 2006 Traffic Safety Commission Item No. 2 – School Crossing at Harvard and George Williams Way

At the June 6, 2006 meeting of the Traffic Safety Commission, a request for an adult crossing guard at Harvard Road and George Williams Way was considered. Staff evaluated the crossing for traffic and pedestrian activity per city policy and found the number of gaps available for crossing the street was less than the policy has established for safety. Therefore, the Traffic Safety Commission recommended that an adult crossing guard be established at this school crossing.

A crossing guard is budgeted at $5,500 per year. A guard at this location is not included in the 2006 and 2007 proposed budget.

Action Requested: Provide direction on recommendation.
