RE:
|
July 25, 2006 Agenda Item
KDOT Applications
|
Attached
is a schedule of projects which have been approved by KDOT for the City of
Lawrence. This information was requested
by the City Commission.
Applications for the CTP
(Comprehensive Transportation Program) are being requested and due to KDOT by
August 1, 2006.
Recommended projects include:
KLINK Recommendation:
For FY 2009 (CY 2008) staff is
recommending resurfacing 23rd
Street from Iowa
to Louisiana Street. Estimated total cost is $700,000. The City’s share would be $500,000 with State
participation of $200,000.
Geometric Improvement Recommendation:
Center turn lane on W. 6th Street
from Folks Road east
to approximately 1,000 feet west of Monterey
Way (Hy-Vee).
Estimated cost $1.2 million (requested from State, $900,000; City share,
$300,000).
Economic Development Recommendation:
The extension of East Hills Drive to
Franklin Road,
and Franklin to
K-10. Franklin is identified as an arterial for
this area, and this would provide a safe outlet to K-10 once this intersection
is signalized. The estimated cost is $3,500,000
(Economic Development FY10). This
project was well received last year and the Highway Commission, which reviews
projects and makes recommendations to the Secretary, was very interested in the
project; however, funding was limited and the City requested a significant
match from the State. If the City
Commission desires to submit this project, it would be recommended to
participate at a higher percentage match – versus the 25% minimum. This would emphasize the importance of this
project to the community. As the
Commission discussed, a 35% match would be $1,225,000 with KDOT funding 65%, or
$2,275,000.
Action Requested:
Approve submittal of KLINK, Geometric Improvement, and Economic
Development Applications.
Respectfully submitted,

Charles F. Soules, P.E.
Director of Public Works
