Description:   Practical Homicide Investigation Seminar

The Lawrence Police Department annually hosts a Practical Homicide Investigation seminar for law enforcement officers across the Midwest Region.  The seminar is led by Vernon J. Geberth, Lieutenant Commander, New York Police Department (Retired) of P.H.I. Investigative Consultants, Inc.   Approval is required to pay the seminar fees and expenses to P.H.I. Investigative Consultants, Inc.

 

Details:  The seminar was held on July 10-12 at the Marriott Spring Hill Suites in Lawrence.  A total of 54 attendees from other law enforcement departments have been billed $425.00 each or a total of $22,950.00 for payment to the City of Lawrence for registration at the seminar.  The fees and expenses required to be paid to P.H.I. Investigative Consultants, Inc. total $17,938.30.

Funding.  The fees and expenses payable to P.H.I. Investigative Consultants, Inc. and the other expenses incurred to host this seminar are covered by the registration fees charged to the outside attendees.  The disbursements and receipts are accounted for in the Police Department’s conferences and seminars line item in the 2006 operating budget.

 

Action Request.  Police Department staff requests approval from the City Commission to make payment in the amount of $17,938.30 to P.H.I. Investigative Consultants, Inc.  for fees and expenses for leading the Practical Homicide Investigation Seminar.
