Dear Mr. Corliss:
As we
discussed at the July 17, 2006, City of Lawrence
Development Team Meeting, a Westar Energy contractor will soon
begin a line clearance project in West Lawrence. Unlike routine tree-trimming operations along
distribution lines, this transmission (high-voltage) line clearance project
will require the outright removal of large trees that are encroaching on
Westar’s easement.
Key Facts
- Westar
acquired this 100-foot utility easement in 1949
- The
transmission line has been in operation since the early 1950’s
- Westar
has the right to trim and remove all trees that may interfere with the
safe operation of the transmission line
- All
potentially affected customers will be notified of pending work via U.S.
Mail
- Wright
Tree Service, Westar’s contractor, will make personal contact with each
resident landowner, or leave a number for the landowner to call for more
information
- Landowners
will be given the opportunity to transplant trees, if the tree can be
safely moved in a reasonable amount of time
- Westar
expects the project to last 2-3 months, unless interrupted by weather or
other factors
- Westar
estimates that 160 customers own property adjacent to the line
- Short
growth vegetation (a mature height of less than 14 feet) outside of
the 50-foot area directly beneath the line conductors will not be removed
- Grasses
and short bushes will not be removed
- Landowners
may contact Westar at 866-562-5121 for further information
Please contact
me if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Chad Luce
