RE:	July 11, 2006 Agenda Item Naismith Drive

On June 13, 2006 the City Commission directed that Naismith Drive from 19^th Street to 23^rd Street remain striped with two lanes in each direction. The City Commission also asked staff to look at ways to identify to motorists that cyclists were also using the same lanes.

Staff discussed this with the Lawrence Bicycle Advisory Committee; an email from Eric Struckhoff is attached. The Lawrence Bicycle Advisory Committee is recommending that the bicycle lane markings be installed in addition to the “Share the Road” signs. The additional cost to add these bike markings will be approximately $5,000.

Action Requested: Direct staff to add the additional striping for bike markings to Phase 2 of the 2006 Overlay and Curb Repair Program.
