Project Update

 

There are numerous construction projects occurring for new subdivisions or new development which do not impact the traveling public.  The following projects impact existing streets and traffic.

 

Kasold Drive, Bob Billings Parkway to 22nd Street.  The west half of Kasold is closed and currently there is one lane of traffic in each direction for northbound and southbound drivers.  This project will not be completed this summer.  The estimated completion date is Fall 2007.

 

Monterey Way – Peterson Road.  Monterey Way is open to traffic between Stetson Drive and Grand Vista Drive.  The intersection of Peterson Road and Kasold Drive is currently being reconstructed.  One lane of traffic is allowed northbound and southbound on Kasold.  Peterson Road, between Monterey Way and Kasold Drive, is closed to all traffic.  The estimated completion date to have Peterson Road and the intersection open to all traffic is October 1, 2006.

 

23rd Street and Iowa Street, has been milled and full depth patching is occurring.  Currently, 23rd Street has one lane of traffic each direction.  23rd Street will be paved during the day the week of July 10.  Iowa Street milling will begin on July 10.  Paving will occur the week of July 23.  This project will be completed by August 1.

 

Overlay, Phase 1.  This project is currently 60% complete.  The following streets have been completed: 

          Atchison Avenue, Clinton Parkway to 26th Street

          Clinton Parkway frontage road, Hawthorne Drive to Crossgate Drive

          Hawthorne Drive, Clinton Parkway to Lowell Drive

          Lowell Drive, Clinton Parkway to Hawthorne Drive

          Maverick Lane, 27th Street to 28th Terrace

          Morningside Drive, Brush Creek Drive to cul-de-sac, including Morningside Court

          Ranch Street, west of Inverness Drive

          W. 11th Street, Mississippi to West Campus Road

          W. 24th Street, Ridge Court to Iowa Street

          W. 24th Terrace, Crossgate Drive to cul-de-sac

          W. 25th Street, Cedarwood Avenue to Ridge Court

          W. 2nd Street, Michigan to McDonald Drive

         

The following streets are currently under construction:

           Inverness Drive, Wakarusa Drive to Bob Billings Parkway including Bel-Air Court, Royal Birkdale Court, Winged Foot Court

          Murrow Court, 9th Street to Yale Road

          Riverview Road, Settlers Drive to Kasold Drive

          Rockfence Place, Longhorn Drive to Riverview Road

          N. 7th Street, Walnut Street to Lake Street

          Wagon Wheel Road, Longhorn Drive to Riverview Road

 

Inverness Drive will be completed by August 1.  The remaining streets will be completed in late August or September.

         

 

Overlay and Curb Repair, Phase 2.  This project is currently 20% complete.  The following streets have been completed:

          Bob Billings Parkway, Inverness to Wakarusa Drive

          Flint Drive, 26th Street to Atchison Avenue

 

The following streets are currently under construction:

          Clinton Parkway frontage road, Crossgate Drive to Bishop Seabury

          Naismith Drive (northbound), 19th Terrace to 23rd Street

          Tennessee, 19th Street to 23rd Street

          21st Street, Tennessee to Louisiana

          27th Street, Iowa to Lawrence Avenue

 

Construction has not begun on the following streets:

          Cambridge Road, High Drive to Sunset Drive

          Crestline Drive, 9th to Yale Road

          Glenview Drive, Summertree Lane to Peterson Road

          14th Street, Massachusetts to Kentucky

          9th Terrace, Rockledge Road to Crestline Drive

          Woodgate Place, Creekwood Drive to Princeton Boulevard

 

Cambridge Road, Crestline Drive, Naismith Drive and 14th Street will be completed by August 1.

 

Overlay and Curb Repair, Phase 3.  This project has just begun.  The contractor is currently working on Greenway Circle and East Hills Drive.  The other streets included in this project are:  Haskell Avenue, 15th Street to 23rd Street; Maple Lane, Brook Street to 19th Street; W. 5th Street, Indiana to Maine; E. 19th Street, Massachusetts to Rhode Island.  E. 19th Street will be completed by August 1. 

 

Sidewalk Inventory.  Currently, the sidewalk inventory is approximately 40% complete.  The inventory has been completed in North Lawrence, all of the area east of Iowa and north of 23rd Street to the east city limits, and the area west of Iowa to Kasold Drive between 6th Street and 15th Street.  There are two interns this summer who are collecting the data and entering it into a database.  A sample of the inventory rating sheet is attached, as well as several pictures of sidewalk conditions that are being found.

 

Attached are five pictures of damaged sidewalks:

  1. Critical overgrowth on the east side of 4th from Elm to Walnut,
  2. Critical overgrowth and cracking on the east side of Wellington from Harvard to Steven Drive,
  3. Critical cracking on the west side of Massachusetts from 23rd Street to south end,
  4. Critical deflections and cracking on the east side of Mississippi from 3rd Street to 4th Street,
  5. Critical overgrowth on west side of Connecticut from 7th Street to 8th Street.
