THE PROJECT

The Institution engaged Easter and Mason, a national consulting firm, to develop a master plan to provide long-range guidance for managing the maintenance and expansion of the Institution’s facilities.  The Project, which will be financed with the proceeds of the Series 2006 Bonds and funds generated by a contribution campaign directed by the Lawrence Memorial Hospital Endowment Association, is designed to meet the need for private patient rooms and to modernize and expand facilities for key patient service areas such as Emergency, Maternity, and Surgical Services.

The Project consists of three phases:

Phase I includes the construction of a third-floor nursing unit above existing facilities to create a 14,000 square foot addition to be used for an 18 bed acute inpatient unit.

Phase II consists of a three story tower which will house a new enlarged Emergency Department, expansion of telemetry beds, additional Ob/Gyn beds and expansion of the central plant.  Phase II will consist of a total of 60,000 square feet.

Phase III consists of a new 33,000 square foot surgery facility located in the area vacated by the old Emergency Department and includes two shelled floors for future clinical needs.

The Project will allow the Institution to convert current semi-private rooms into private rooms to meet current patient expectations and provides capacity to meet future growth needs in clinical services.

The Institution has contracted with ACI/Boland, Inc. for architectural services and J.E. Dunn Construction Company as general contractor for the Project.
