RE:	Sale, Possession and Consumption of Alcoholic Beverages at South Park for the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce Parties in the Park Series

The Lawrence Chamber of Commerce is presenting a summer series called “Parties in the Park” which will feature live bands and family fun with food vendors, beer sales, and activities for kids.  The events take place from 5 to 8 p.m. in South Park on the fourth Thursday of each month throughout the summer from May to August.  Parties in the Park will provide a fun evening of entertainment for the whole family.  Party in the Park dates are: Thursday, May 25, Thursday, June 22, Thursday, July 22, and Thursday, August 27.  Parties in the Park will also promote the Chamber’s “Start Here” campaign, which encourages starting in Lawrence and Douglas County for shopping, service, volunteering, education and more.

Event organizers are requesting City approval for the sale, possession and consumption of alcoholic beverages in a designated area in South Park.  I have attached a copy of Ordinance 8002 for the Commission’s consideration.  This ordinance allows the sale, possession and consumption of alcoholic beverages from 4:30 p.m. to11:30 pm on the above days of the event.
