RE:	Proposed Ordinance Amending Contractor Licensing Regulations to Add Trades

Ordinance 7988 amends Chapter 5, Articles 12 (Contractor Licensing Regulations) and 13 (Contractor Licensing Board), as well as Articles, 4, 6, and 11 to bring the trades contractors in with the general, building, residential, and building specialty contractors.  Staff provided a status report to the City Commission on this item on April 11, 2006.

Pursuant to City Commission direction received on April 11, 2006, Section 5-1302 of the Ordinance 7988 has been revised to provide that the electrical, mechanical and plumbing contractor appointed to the Contractor Licensing Board shall also be a member of their respective trade’s advisory board.  

As indicated to the City Commission on April 11, 2005, staff attended the regularly scheduled meetings of the electrical, mechanical, and plumbing advisory boards in April to review the draft ordinance with them.  The advisory boards all indicated continued support for the draft ordinance, as revised.

Staff recommends the City Commission adopt Ordinance 7988 on first reading.
