MEMBERS PRESENT:

Nancy Bjorge, Lynn Ground, Kathleen Hodge, Linda Hyler, Jon Josserand, William Keel, Michael Kennedy, Graham Kreicker, Gina Ross, Bob Schumm, Karen Swisher, LHS Student and Local Govt. Club Representative:  Alyssa Lorenz

PUBLIC PRESENT:

Dr. Charles Stansifer, Professor Emeritus from KU's History and Latin American Studies Dept., Mary Miller, from the Kansas-Paraguay Partners Program. 

Five students from Paraguay, some with their Lawrence hosts: Alejandra Britez with Nancy Burt; Juan Carlos Calderoli; Tania Mindikowski; Gabriel Valdez with Steve Lopes; Carina Livieres with Kelly Cline.  Kelly also represented Half-Price Book Store.

Miriam Silva, their teacher at San Ignacio Loyola School, with her hosts,  John Poertner and Edith Black

Arla Jones, LHS librarian and Dr. Kim Kreicker with the Kansas-Paraguay Partners

Meeting called to order at 5:40 PM by Ross.

 

Kreicker moved that we approve the minutes of our Feb. 8th meeting.  Keel seconded. Motion passed.

 

Kreicker moved that the accounting documents be approved.  Keel seconded.  Motion passed.

 

Hyler moved that we do a second mailing for dues renewals.  Ground seconded.  Motion passed.

Kreicker will order a box of mailing envelopes. Keel will make copies of the renewal reminders. Hodge will mail the reminders.

 

Discussion of fundraising was shared.  Schumm, Hodge will co-chair a party event to raise money.  Bjorge and Hyler will assist.  Everyone on the board will help facilitate this event.  Send lists of names of people to invite to Hodge.

 

Hyler made a report on the trip here last summer by the students from Hiratsuka.  She shared with the Board the evaluations and information sent back from Hiratsuka.  She will bring to the next meeting a book the Hiratsuka students assembled and sent to us.

 

Ross reported on a request she received to have a local exhibition of work by two Hiratsuka artists.  Ross will share the request with Tsubaki and he will follow up.

 

Discussion of future sister cities insued.

 

Frank Baron and Anica Schutt made a presentation about her time as an intern here.

 

Hyler moved we adjourn at 7:00 PM.  Ground seconded.  Motion passed.
