Proclamation

Lawrence, Kansas

 

 

WHEREAS:        Huntington’s Disease is an inherited, degenerative brain disorder that affects 30,000 Americans and currently has no effective treatment or cure; and

 

WHEREAS:        Since the discovery of the gene that causes Huntington’s Disease in 1993, the pace of Huntington’s Disease research has accelerated; and

 

WHEREAS:        The Huntington’s Disease Society of America and The Hereditary Disease Foundation are national health organizations dedicated to finding a cure for the disease; and

 

WHEREAS:        Kansas researchers at the KU Medical Center Huntington’s Disease Clinic and the Hereditary Neurological Disease Centre are conducting important research and provide evaluations, education, and multi-disciplinary services;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mike Amyx, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby proclaim the month of May, 2006 to be:

 

“HUNTINGTON’S DISEASE AWARENESS MONTH”

 

and urge citizens of this community to participate in events to increase their awareness about Huntington’s Disease.
