Proclamation

Lawrence, Kansas

WHEREAS:   Water is a basic and essential need of every living creature; and

WHEREAS:   Our health, comfort, and standard of living depend on an abundant supply of high-quality water; and

WHEREAS:   We are calling upon each citizen to give drinking water a hand by protecting our source waters from pollution, practicing water conservation, and getting involved in water decisions; and

WHEREAS:   We encourage all citizens to spread the word for water quality; and

WHEREAS:   The City of Lawrence Department of Utilities believes that citizens should have a dependable supply of water both now and in the future.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mike Amyx, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby proclaim the week of May 7 –13, 2006, to be

“DRINKING WATER WEEK”

and urge all citizens to recognize the basics of source protection, conservation, and involvement and to recognize the value, importance, and fragility of our water resources.
