Lawrence Citizen’s Advisory Board Update

On Monday April 24, 2006, the first meeting of the Citizen’s Advisory Board was held at the Lawrence Police Department Investigations and Training Center.  The members of the board were welcomed by Police Chief Ron Olin, and listened to presentations regarding the recently enacted racial profiling law, the duties of the board, and the Lawrence Police Department’s internal affairs procedures by Sgt. Dan Ward and Staff Attorney Scott Miller.  The board unanimously elected Lydia Léon as its chairperson.  The immediate task of the Board is to provide recommendations to the Police Department regarding its racial profiling policy, which must be adopted by July 1, 2006.  Future meetings are scheduled for May, 22nd and June 5th at 6:30 P.M. each day at the I.T.C.

 

 

Kansas Water Marketing Program

Acting Director of Utilities Chris Stewart plans to attend a meeting to be held May 5, 2006 at the Kanawaka Township meeting hall to be hosted by officials of the Kansas Water Office.  The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the future of the Kansas Water Marketing program.  The City of Lawrence is a significant participant in this program because of our purchase of water from the State from Clinton Reservoir.  A report from the Kansas Water Office providing background and current issues analysis is attached.

 

 

T2030 Committee Update

Bill Ahrens, Transportation Planner, has provided the attached update on the activities of the T2030 Committee.
