Mayor and Chair of the Arts Commission to present award checks for the 12th Annual Lawrence Arts Commission Community Arts Grants
Project Description/History:
The Lawrence Arts Commission - Community Arts Grant program began in 1995 with the expressed purpose of providing grants funds intended as start-off money for projects or special community art-related ventures with a particular focus on encouraging the arts within the Lawrence community.
Since the Community Arts Grant program inception, the Lawrence Arts Commission has provided grant funding totaling $40,000-$50,000 to 125 organizations/artists.
Project Status/ Details:
The Lawrence Arts Commission 12th Annual Community Arts Grant recommendations were selected based on the following five criteria: 1) proposal clarity, 2) benefit to the community, 3) support from community, 4) potential for increasing community participation in the arts, and 5) community collaboration & partnership.

Project Funding: Funding for this program is through the Parks & Recreation- Special Recreation fund.
Action Request. The Lawrence Arts Commission recommends and requests that the Mayor issue the 2006 Community Arts Grants checks to the grant awardees as shown in the above table at the April 25, 2006 City Commission meeting.
