Proclamation

Lawrence, Kansas

WHEREAS:        Success By 6 Coalition of Douglas County, and many other organizations that provide early childhood care and education and support services to families with young children in conjunction with the National Association for the Education of Young Children, are celebrating the Week of the Young Child, April 2 – 8, 2006; and

WHEREAS:        These organizations and many others are working to improve early learning opportunities, which are crucial to the growth and development of young children, and to building better futures for everyone in Lawrence; and

WHEREAS:        All young children and their families across the county and in Lawrence, Kansas deserve access to high quality early education and care; and

WHEREAS:        In recognizing and supporting the people, programs and policies that are committed to high-quality early childhood education as the right choice for kids;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Dennis “Boog” Highberger, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby proclaim the week of April 2-8, 2006, to be

“THE WEEK OF THE YOUNG CHILD”

in Lawrence, and encourage all citizens to work to make a good investment in early childhood.
