City legal and parks and recreation staff have been working with the owners of the former Honeywell property (Lot 4, King Industrial Park), Mary’s Lake Properties, L.L.C., since 2004 regarding possible City acquisition of approximately 6 acres adjacent to Mary’s Lake and the City’s Prairie Park Nature Center (see attached map). The discussion has included the sale of the City owned Lot 1, Block 1 of Chaparral Park Subdivision (19,927 sq. ft.) to the developers. This tract has never been improved into a park, is currently vacant and suitable for housing purposes as part of the Mary’s Lake project. It is part of the final plat of Mary’s Lake Addition.
On March 7, 2006, the City Commission approved the final plat for the project (PF-01-01-06 PC Item No. 2: approved 9-0 on 2/16/06) Staff Report Final Plat
Authorization is requested for the purchase of Tract A (5.86 acres) and the sale of City owned Lot 1, Block 1 of Chaparral Park Subdivision, pursuant to the conditions of the purchase contract with Mary’s Lake Properties, L.L.C. in the net amount of $268,000. Prior to final closing, the City must provide public notice of the pending sale as provided by K.S.A. 12-1301. Pursuant to earlier City Commission direction , funding for this acquisition will come from the sales tax reserve fund.
