2006 USA Cycling Collegiate Road Nationals
Downtown Criterium

Background: The KU Cycling club served as the host school for the USA Cycling collegiate national championships, including a downtown criterium, in Lawrence, Kansas on May 13, 2005. This was the premiere event of the three-day championship series.
USA Cycling, the national governing body of bicycle racing and sanctioning agent for the Event, was so pleased with Lawrence as an event destination that the championships are scheduled for a return on May 12-14, 2006 with the pinnacle criterium event occurring on May 14.
While the 2005 Event was conducted on a Friday, this year’s Event is proposed for a Sunday morning, with the following specifications.
Specifications:
Course set-up: Begins at 4:00 a.m. This will include closing the downtown streets depicted on the attached map while type III barricades will be used to maintain segregation between the cyclists and local traffic. Lawrence Police officers will help monitor and manage the Event.
A start/finish area, public address system, and announcer’s booth will also be installed between the hours of 4:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m.
Race events: Begin at 7:00 a.m. and will end at approximately 11:45 a.m. The specific start times of the events include:
