Furnishing for Fire Station No. 4 – Bid #B06009
|
Background:
Station No. 4 construction budget included $80,000 for furnishings and equipment. A taskforce of department members has been meeting over the past several months along with the assistance of Ms. Angie Killion, Interior Designer with SFS Architects to purchase furnishings that are well priced and provide the best warranty. To assist in ensuring that we obtain the lowest price, we have selected furniture that is on the State of Kansas Contract (A40186). There are however, some items that were not on the state contract that were sent out for bid.
Items included in the bids consist of station tables and chairs, dayroom chairs, tables, beds and office furniture. See attached spreadsheet outlining specific items and cost.
On February 28, 2006 the City of Lawrence opened three bids. After review of the accepted bids the following only Designed Business Interiors met the bid specification as requested in the bid document. Spaces, Inc. and Encompas contained irregularities and were incomplete. Therefore, the bids were rejected. The second lowest bid (DBI, Inc.) is recommended.

DBI, Inc. (Bid Items) |
$21,161.58 |
DBI, Inc. (KS State Contract) |
$8,240.79 |
Recommendation:
We recommend the purchase from Design Business Interiors as the only complete bid for non state contract items. In addition we recommend furnishings off the KS State Contract from DBI, Inc. (see attached SFS memo and spreadsheet). We recommend the City purchase furnishings from DBI in the above amounts equaling $29,402.37.
