On December 14, 2005, several members of Wakarusa Group, Kansas Chapter of the Sierra Club attended the monthly meeting of the Recycling and Resource Conservation Advisory Board (RRCAB) to present information on the U.S. Mayors’ Climate Protection Agreement and the Sierra Club’s Cool Cities program. There are now 194 cities in the United States. representing over 40 million people that have signed on to this agreement including Topeka and Kansas City, MO.
After a review and discussion of the information presented, the RRCAB recommends that you consider signing on to the U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement.
In addition, we strongly recommend that a limited inventory of the City’s current carbon emissions be conducted and a plan be created to identify the steps to be taken toward reduction of same. In signing this agreement and following through with the recommended actions therein, the City of Lawrence and its citizens can realize positive change from reduced energy expenditures and a healthier environment.
Thank you for your consideration.
