Recycling and Resource Conservation Advisory Board

January 11, 2006 Minutes

 

MEMBERS PRESENT:

Introductions were made to new RRCAB member Aimee Stewart.

 

December 2005 Minutes were approved as changed.  Mollie will make corrections and send onto city commissioners.

 

The Board decided to write a letter to the Mayor recommending that he consider signing on to the U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement, and in addition, recommend that a limited inventory of the City’s current carbon emissions be conducted and a plan be created to identify the steps to be taken toward reduction of same.  Cindy Strecker will draft the letter, submit to Board for additional comments and then email to Mollie for submission to the Mayor through staff.

 

Subcommittee Meeting Reports:

A.    Energy Conservation – An Energy Conservation Subcommittee meeting will be held at the Yello Sub on campus, Monday January 16th @ 11:30 a.m.

B.     Recycling: No report.

 

2006 Goal Setting – RRCAB:

-Per the Boards request, Mollie will email current board with previous goal setting documentation from previous RRCAB boards.

-Kevin Dobbs will solicit ideas for 2006 goals from current board members via email with the intention to discuss at February 8th RRCAB Meeting.

-Kevin Dobbs suggested that a review and follow up of the Energy Conservation strategies memo (December 8, 2004) be included within 2006 activities.

 

Waste Reduction and Recycling Report:  Mollie provided board with WRR Report.

 

Other: John Craft will follow up with Barry Walthall regarding local implementation of KS Statute

Kansas

HB 2131 was signed April 17, 2003 and will become effective on July 1, 2003. The bill amends the law regarding thermal efficiency standards of commercial, industrial, and residential buildings. Among the provisions of the bill the new law will designate the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) 2003 as the thermal efficiency standard for new commercial and industrial buildings.
