Subject: City Commission agenda item

Dear Bobbie,

You'll probably recall that, last fall, we were in communication

about the possibility of adding an item (concerning a proposed

affordable housing conference) to the City Commission agenda.  After further planning, this is what we'd now like to do.  Here are the main specifics:

If possible, we'd like to propose our conference at the City

Commission meeting on the evening of 2/28.  By "we," I mean the Joint

Housing Committee, which is a group made up of the housing committees

of the League of Women Voters, the Lawrence Association of

Neighborhoods, and the Kaw Valley Living Wage Alliance.  (In our

earlier communications, you may recall that you heard from Carrie

Lindsey as well as from me.)  And if you need other specifics, I'd be glad to provide them.

Since we're planning to request a small commitment of city funds, I

would also like to know how I can learn more about the financial

technicalities associated with a proposal of this kind.  Is there

someone in city government who can advise us on the technical details

of a proposal of this kind? (We plan to seek modest funding for a

part-time conference organizer, who would report to the Joint Housing

Committee in consultation with the city.)

Thanks a lot, Bobbie.  I'll look forward to your response.

All the best,

David Smith for the

Joint Housing Committee
