Fire Code Board of Appeals

                                             Meeting Minutes

                                          December 14^th, 2005

            Meeting held at Fire & Medical Station One conference room.

Board members present: Tom Waechter, Pete Easterwood, Dan Wilkus and                                              Tracey Green.

Member absent:  Jay Zimmerschied

Staff Present:  Rich Barr and Russell Brickell

Guest Present:  Adrian Jones

Meeting called to order by Board Chair Tom Wachter at 4:45pm

Item #1:  Adrian Jones, Structural Inspector for the City of Lawrence Codes Enforcement Division, gave an overview of the process of the UBC Board’s adoption of the IBC. Mr. Jones informed the Fire Code Board of the pending intentions of the Uniform Mechanical Board of Appeals to adopt the UMC. The Fire Code Board discussed this information with Rich Barr and Adrian Jones at some length. The Board asked Mr. Jones to inform the Code Enforcement Board of the Fire Code Board’s upcoming review of the IFC. Mr. Jones agreed and will attend the next meeting to discuss findings.

Item #2:  Discussion of review materials:

                        Board discussed the 2003 IFC transition from the 1997 UFC. Board decided to review chapters 1 (Administration), 2 (Definitions), 3 (General Precautions Against Fires) and 4 (Emergency Planning and Preparedness for a better understanding of the 2003 IFC.

Chapter reviews will continue at the next meeting.
