RE: |
agenda item - Clinton Plant Polymer
|
Please place the following item on the City Commission agenda for consideration at their January 10, 2006 meeting:
Nalcolyte 8186 polymer, a water treatment chemical, needs to be ordered for the Clinton Water Treatment Plant. The polymer is provided by only one vendor, at $ 0.566 per pound (a 14.3 % increase from last year price).
Details: This product has been used at the Clinton Water Treatment plant as the primary coagulant for 14 years. This is a critical treatment process to ensure the drinking water will meet the regulatory requirements to provide safe drinking water. Staff has compared the annual price increase of the Nalco polymer with other chemicals bid in November. The average annual increase in the bid prices of the other chemicals is 13.4 % . By comparison, the increase of 14.3 % for the Nalco product is similar to the increase in the chemical bid items for 2006.
Funding: This purchase will be funded from the Clinton Treatment Plant’s chemical line item of the 2004-operating budget.
Action Request: Staff is requesting approval to issue a purchase order for 6 month usage to Nalco Chemical Company for $45,280.00 (includes freight) for 80,000 pounds of chemical.
Thank you for your consideration of this request. Please let me know if you have any questions.
